Did Joe find balance?

Greetings and welcome to the Singly Married blog space! It is here, in this space, that we will continue our discussions from previous episodes and wrap up any stories that didn’t have the chance to be answered during the podcast.

Speaking of which….

many of you were wondering if I was able to find balance. I had mentioned that my new job was difficult to let go of after work. I ended up taking feelings about my job back home and never really allowed myself to end each work day. Part of this reason is because of the apps that I was expected to put on my phone. Well, the apps are still on my phone and I have figured out a way to let each work day end BEFORE the drive home.

First: After work, I turn off my notifications. Any emails that I get can wait until tomorrow. What good is it for me to read emails that I am not going to respond to until tomorrow? I‘m just adding unnecessary stress to my home life. With my notifications off, I won’t know (and won’t care) about work until I fire up the old computer in the morning. I just have to remember to turn the notifications on each day.

Second: Hide my work apps! Did you know that if you push apps together on your phone, it will create a new file? I didn’t! I’m old! All of my work apps are in a separate file folder on my phone AND that file folder is put on the last page. Out of sight, out of mind!

So, did I find balance?!?!

HELL YEAH I DID!!!

This worked for me. It has been a blessing to come home everyday and be in the moment with my wife and kids. It has been a blessing to enjoy work and enjoy home as separate entities. It has been a blessing to have a consistent schedule that allows me to strive in my work life and thrive in my own life.
