Joe’s Journey: January

Hello all you fans! Welcome back!

Well, January has come and gone! My journey (or what I going to call my Joe-ney) is still in full swing. I didn’t quit!! I was able to find time to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Sometimes, I went to the gym. Isn’t the gym great! Nothing like being in a place where other men and women can commiserate with you as you try to lose weight and become healthy. I only wish that the free-weight section was more open to use. Seriously, fellas (why is it always the fellas) once you have finished your set, wipe down the machine and then…LEAVE. You can talk to your bros as you are traveling to your next destination.

Other times, I simply went for a walk. I tried to make it so I was walking at a quicker pace to to get a good sweat going.

I also tried to throw in some crunches or push-ups just because.

At the end of January, I weighed 10 pounds less. I am now at 340!

I am both proud and angry at that number. Ten pounds is nothing to laugh at. That shows that I have prioritized this Joe-ney, I’m am angry because I still can’t believe that I let myself get to this point. But, I have to remember, that the movement I am making is positive. I got this.

10 pounds seemed like a lot in a month! So, I analyzed what I was doing and I found out that while I was moving, I was also doing something else. I wasn’t eating as much. I am a bored eater. If I am watching TV (I LOVE WATCHING TV) I have found that I need to resist the desire to eat. Mostly because I can’t stop. If I don’t have anything to do, I will read a book…and eat a candy bar. When I was active, I wasn’t “hungry” Truth be told, I was never hungry, I was bored.

So, I have decided to make the February challenge an eating/caloric intake month. I am going to try Intermittent fasting. Drew and I talk about this on the pod (check out episode 40!!!!!!!!)

Here is my plan:

  1. Breakfast will be a cup of coffee. This is nothing new. I usually only have coffee because I wake up too late during the workweek to have anything else. Plus, a lot of my job is sitting and typing. I don’t want to have food just sit and not get worked off. And, yes! I put creamer in my coffee. I know black is better for you and all that. But, I like my coffee with a little creamer. So, back off!

  2. No lunch. I don’t usually eat a full lunch. Last month, I would go for a walk during my lunch break. it was relaxing, rejuvenating and cold.

  3. Allow myself to have a snack if needed. I like to suck/chew on mints. That’s my snack. I also chew gum

  4. Have a sensible dinner: Sensible means not trying to replenish all the calories that I didn’t eat during the day. The average stomach is no bigger than the size of your/my fist. Have some protein, eat a veggie, call it good.

  5. DRINK WATER!!!! Soda is not water, it is salt and sugar

Combine this with the movement I am already doing, and we should see positive results again.

Thanks for reading about Joe-ney! Make sure to catch the next episode of Singly Married and re-listen to any past episodes.

    One mind, One life!
